As of July 23, 2024, a staggering 24,566,000 Medicaid enrollees have been disenrolled since the end of continuous enrollment protections. This represents a substantial portion of the overall Medicaid population.
However, it's important to note that this figure is offset by the number of successful renewals. To date, 53,641,000 individuals have maintained their Medicaid coverage through the renewal process.

  • State Variations: Disenrollment rates vary significantly across states, with some states experiencing much higher loss of coverage than others.
  • Reasons for Disenrollment: While the end of continuous enrollment is a primary factor, other reasons include income increases, changes in household size, and failure to respond to renewal notices.
On another note, with election just under way former President and current republican nominee Donald Trump if elected allegedly intends to dismantle the Affordable Cares Act, cut Medicaid benefits, increase Medicare Part D prescription drug prices, and annihilate reproductive freedom across the nation. Instead of minimizing health care cost. Which is what most American would like to see, Project 2025 under the Trump administration intends to increase healthcare cost, provide less care for those who need it and raise prescription drug cost.
Additionally, Project 2025. Intends to implement a lifetime cap on Medicaid services. For example; The lifetime cap may say something along the line of one an individual has used $10,000 worth of services. Than they have reached the limit and will no longer be eligible for Medicaid. As previously stated under Project 2025 the administration intends to increase Part D Prescription Drugs. Currently under the Inflation Reduction Act insulin for diabetics is capped at $35 dollars for a months supply. Project 2025 the cap would be erased which means the price for insulin would increase again.
When it comes to the Affordable Cares Act. The Trump administration would allow insurance carriers to deny individuals with pre-existing conditions. Currently those with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied. Also roughly 100,000 individuals who are consisted apart of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals are expected to enroll during this years Annual Enrollment for the marketplace. However, if Trump is elected the Project 2025 intends to dismantle the Affordable Cares Act and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals act.
