Medicare Part A Premium and Hospital Copay for 2024

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that the Medicare Part A inpatient hospital deductible will be $1,632 in 2024, an increase of $32 from $1,600 in 2023.

Medicare Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care services. Most people with Medicare do not pay a monthly premium for Part A, but those who have fewer than 40 quarters of Medicare-covered employment may pay a premium.

After you meet the Part A inpatient hospital deductible, Medicare pays 100% of the approved cost of covered services for the first 60 days of a hospitalization. For days 61-90, you pay a daily coinsurance amount of $408. For lifetime reserve days (days 91 and beyond), you pay a daily coinsurance amount of $816.

If you are admitted to a skilled nursing facility after a hospital stay, you pay a daily coinsurance amount of $204 for days 21-100.
